Troubleshooting
The most common fixes, straight from our customers.
The clay feels stiff & I can't spread it
It has to be warmed before it goes near your hair. Take a dime sized amount & rub it between your fingers for a solid ten to fifteen seconds until it turns from firm & textured into a thin, smooth film that almost disappears on your hands.
If you can still see or feel a lump, it isn't ready yet. Clay that goes in as a lump sits in patches instead of coating evenly.
How much should I be using?
Start with a dime sized scoop of clay & five to seven sprays. You can always add more, start alternating small amounts of each until you land on the combo that works for your hair.
My hair isn't curling
Usually you stopped scrunching too soon. Keep going longer than feels necessary, & make sure the Sea Salt Spray goes on over the clay, since the spray is what activates the clay for the most definition.
Applying to damp hair rather than dry helps a lot too. From there, play with the amounts of each until you find what your hair responds to. Length matters as well, since the clay needs something to bend, so shorter hair on top will read as texture & lift rather than curl.
My hair looks greasy or feels heavy
Almost always too much product, & usually too much spray rather than too much clay. Cut both amounts in half & build back up from there until you find your combo.
Does the spray do anything on its own?
Yes, but a different job. On its own the Sea Salt Spray gives you texture, volume & soft movement with a light, touchable hold.
The shape & definition come from the clay. Spray over clay is what activates the volcanic bentonite & gives you the most curl, which is why the two together outperform either alone.
My style falls flat during the day
Most often it didn't get time to set. The clay holds best once it has dried into shape, so give it a few minutes before you head out, or speed it up with a blow dryer on low.
You can also bring it back mid-day without adding anything. Scrunch upward, or mist lightly with the Sea Salt Spray & scrunch again.
